hugh jackman defends his friendship with ivanka trump, says she’s “kind
In an appearance on the television show The View on Tuesday, actor Hugh Jackman defended his friendship with his presidential daughter, Ivanka Trump, and her husband, White House advisor Jared Kushner. In October, Trump and Kushner were spotted at Jackman's 50th birthday party.
And during the Tuesday episode of The View, host Sunny Hostin called him for hosting the couple at his party. "You have been able to maintain your friendship by not talking politics, is it the declaration?" Asked Hostin.
"I mean, I've known them for 15 years. Deb and I know them, "said Jackman at the sign, referring to his wife, Deborra-lee Furness. "We are in a similar group of friends. They have always been so kind and generous and I can tell you handwritten letters that Ivanka wrote to my mother-in-law when she won the Order of Australia and I did not know. "
He then added, "People are asking," Oh really? "OK, let's say your 15-year-old father's friends became president, whether you agree with politics or not, do you come from topple your friends? And I am like no. I do not understand."
This is not the first time Jackman has been asked about his friendship with Trump and Kushner. At the premiere of his new film, The Front Runner, Jackman was asked about their relationship. He also defended it by saying that they had been friends for 15 years and that they do not talk about politics together, according to Variety.
Ironically - or perhaps not - Jackman's new film is entirely devoted to the true story of Senator Gary Hart, whose campaign for president was interrupted in 1987 with reports of his extramarital affair. The film is based on the 2014 fiction book The Truth is out: Matt Bai's The Week Politics Went Tabloid, in which it is written that the cover of the Hart affair has changed the politics forever and opened the life candidate's public forum.
Jackman may have been working with Trump and Kushner since they joined the White House staff, but that does not seem to be the case with other friends of the couple from their previous lives. A Vanity Fair report from 2017 details the increasing isolation of couples as former friends abandoned them because of their role in the Trump administration.
According to reports, former friends Natalie Portman, Emmy Rossum and the editor-in-chief of Vogue Lauren Santo Domingo were once close to Kushner and Trump and have now all become virulent critics of the Trump administration. Portman distanced himself from Kushner, one of his Harvard classmates, who told Stephen Colbert in June: "It is not very funny to say that someone you were friends with becomes a supervillain. So, it's not funny.
And Santo Domingo, whose biography on Twitter says "GOP, the only party I'm not invited to", called his former friend Ivanka Trump on Twitter, including a tweet from March where she wrote: "In the end , be @realDonaldTrump and @IvankaTrump alone in the bunker
Apparently, Jackman, however, has not had such problems with the role of his friends at Trump's White House and is able to politely avoid the subject, while continuing to insist on interviews.
